Climate Crisis and the UK Economy?

If global temperatures are allowed to rise by 2 degrees Centigrade above pre-industrial levels, a UK government panel estimate that the climate crisis will wipe at least 1% off the country's economy by 2045 (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/jan/17/climate-crisis-1-percent-a-year-off-uk-economy-by-2045 ). Extreme weather events can prove costly. The panel suggest that food production losses, repair to damaged infrastructure (roads, rail etc) and spending to reduce flooding risk will each cost more than £1bn per year by 2050. One should firstly note that the world is clearly on track to exceed the 2 degrees Centigrade rise. Even so, the UK government is not exactly rushing to reduce its 'greenhouse gas' emissions. Many of the panel's financial 'calculations' actually appear to be on the optimistic side. If things really 'go pear-shaped', the UK (and many other countries) will be lucky to have any economy!
