This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Hot To Trot?
Climatologists have noted that, in 2021, circa 400 weather stations, around the world, beat their all-time record temperatures (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/jan/07/heat-records-broken-all-around-the-world-in-2021-says-climatologist). Weather station records are reliably accurate. Places with extreme (for the location) temperatures, included Lytton Canada; Furnace Creek USA; Canefield Dominica; Sidi Slimane Morocco; Kairouan Tunisia; Syracuse Italy; Cizre Turkey; Swiehan UAE; Joba Oman and Taimali Taiwan. The climatologists also noted that the last 6 years have globally been the hottest on record. The world's population can't fail to notice that extreme temperatures are a fact of life everywhere. They are not simply a 'blip'. Some of the record temperatures are life-threatening for humans and other organisms.
