An auditing body has likened the UK's response to climate change to the long-running comedy about a hapless Home Guard troop led by a dithering bank manager in the Second World War (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/jun/21/britain-still-failing-on-climate-crisis-warn-advisers). They warn that the country has done little to counter the consequences of Global Warming (including flooding, air quality problems and over-heating). They suggest that urgent action is needed on a) Improving home insulation; b) Phasing out the use of gas to provide central heating and c) Getting diesel and petrol cars off the roads. They admit that these are expensive undertakings but feel strongly that they also represent economic opportunities. This could be seen as an opportunity in getting the economy back on track after the Covid-19 lockdown.
This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.
