This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

No Shit Sherlock!
Firefly Green Fuels of Gloucestershire England, have made jet fuel 'entirely' from human faeces. Their product seems to have a carbon footprint, that's only 10% of that of standard jet fuel (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-gloucestershire-67771640). Flying, generates about 2% of global carbon dioxide emissions. This mode of transport, consequently, has a substantial impact on our heating planet. An almost inexhaustable supply of human shit is available. It may, however, prove difficult to rachet up the production of this biofuel sufficiently. At the moment, the vast majority of jet fuel comes from fossil sources. Major new investments would be needed, as well as mechanisms encouraging airlines to switch (there's currently no duty on jet fuel).
