This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

And a Koala in a Plastic Tree?
A family in Adelaide Australia were apparentlt surprised to find a juvenile Koala trying to eat the plastic 'leaves' of the atificial Christmas tree in their house (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/dec/03/on-the-first-day-of-australian-family-finds-live-koala-in-their-christmas-tree). Although the story ended well, with the animal being taken into 'care', this does suggest that recent climate-related events 'downunder' have confused the wildlife. Koalas normally feed exclusively on Eucalyptus leaves, which smell rather differently from old plastic.
