This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Repeat Offenders?
Some people never seem to change. Coca Cola, PepsiCo, Nestle and Unilever reportedly generated circa 0.5 billion tonnes of plastic waste dumped in 6 developing countries. The first three, have now achieved top spot for the 3rd year running in a survey of almost 350k plastic items washed up on beaches all around the planet(https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/dec/07/coca-cola-pepsi-and-nestle-named-top-plastic-polluters-for-third-year-in-a-row). Admittedly, just over 60% of the items, collected by the 15000 volunteers, were clearly branded. But, Coca Cola clearly topped the list, even exceeding the totals for PepsiCo and Nestle (in 2nd and 3rd slots) combined. Their excuse for not curbing their use of plastic bottles, "customers like them".
