This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Golfing Bogie?
I seem to remember that people warned it would cause damage to an environmentally interesting area. NatureScot have now suggested that the SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) designation be removed from the Menie dunes in Aberdeenshire (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/dec/09/trumps-aberdeenshire-golf-resort-dunes-lose-special-environmental-status). The dunes had been 'a high quality example of a geological system characteristc of NE Scotland'. Their incorporation into the Trump International Golf Links now means that they no longer have the merit to be incorporated into the SSSI. The golf course was approved, in spite of warnings, probably because of the promises of associated hotel accommodation and jobs. It's amazing how frequently such promises of 'economic' 'gold' override obvious environmental considerations.
