This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Quantum: No Solace?
There is a rather sad story of Royal Caribbean's cruise ship, Quantum, having to cancel its cruise 'to nowhere' (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/dec/09/singapore-cruise-to-nowhere-ends-after-passenger-tests-positive-for-covid-19). The scheduled 'safe' cruise was limited to residents of the city state of Singapore. The plan was that it would make no stops and stay within Singapore's waters. Unfortunately, one passenger tested positive for Covid-19 and the whole thing had to be cancelled. I suppose that an unconsidered benefit is that one shipping contribution to 'greenhouse gas' emissions will not, now, occur.
