This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Big Business Keeping Quiet?
It's going to be very difficult to control climate change, when some major businesses won't reveal details about their carbon dioxide emissions (https://www.theguardian.com/business/2020/dec/13/climate-crisis-ftse-giants-fail-to-disclose-their-carbon-footprint). CDP is a charity that provides a global disclosure system for investors, companies, cities et cetera to reveal their environmental impacts. Some major companies on the Financial Times Stock Exchange 100 (FTSE 100) list, are said to have refused to comply with investor demands to disclose their carbon dioxide emissions. These include British Petroleaum and Glencore (both with oil and gas interests), as well as Rolls Royce (an engineering company, specialising in aircraft engines). Perhaps with a more impact on the 'man in the street', is the observation that Just Eat Takeaway has also failed to come up with the required data (in fairness, it's perhaps more difficult in their case). We clearly need businesses, government and individuals all to focus on achieving reductions in the 'greenhouse gases' that they generate/ are responsible for.
