Just Run Our Greenwash Cycle One more Time!

Some of America's most prominent and richest companies (e.g. Amazon; Apple; Disney and Microsoft) repeatedly express their concerns about climate change and/or announce (fanfare) their own goals to cut 'greenhouse gases' (https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/oct/01/apple-amazon-microsoft-disney-lobby-groups-climate-bill-analysis). Sadly, these same companies are also backing business groups fighting US climate legislation. These prominent companies act as if they believe the 'climate crisis' is merely a marketing opportunity, where thay can vie to appear to be 'greener than thou'. Their business logic also frequently fails, when environmental issues are added. For example, Mr Bezo's, founder of Amazon, is one of the world's richest men. Bezos maintains that the climate crisis "is the biggest threat to our planet" (glad you got it, Jeff). Amazon have 'pledged' that their businesses will cut their emissions to net zero by 2020. Concomitantly, Bezos pushes ahead with his Blue Origin space-tourism project with its massive carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides emissions. It seems that America's prominent companies, a) want to appear to be 'good guys' but b) are very loath to accept any regulation. Regulation might mean higher taxes and could stop them doing what they feel like. It might even curb their profits. Amazon et al. don't want to admit that, countering climate change, involves everyone making substantial changes to their life-styles. People (shock-horror!), might order fewer things from Amazon, fail to buy the new iPad, watch less Disney entertainment and replace their computers less frequently. Waving the green flag won't change that.
