This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

What Have the UN Got Against Africa?
The UK's former Health Secretary was a key player in that country's response to the Covid19 pandemic. In two recent cross-party reports, the country's reactions to the pandemic were described as "one of the worst ever public health failures". There were tens of thousands of avoidable deaths and economic disruption. When he was Health Secretary, this man was also accused of cronyism. He seems to have directed lucrative contracts for personal protective equipment to a publican friend and neighbour. He was certainly not noted for encouraging any Covid19 vaccines to go to poorer nations. He has now been 'honoured' (his word), by being appointed a special representative to the United Nations to help African countries recover from Covid19 (https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/oct/12/matt-hancock-appointed-un-special-envoy-to-help-covid-recovery-in-africa). God help them!
