This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Once Upon a Time, There Were 'Dragons' in Wales?
A fossil of a Theropod (the group to which birds and Tyrannosaurus rex belong), has been unearthed in a South Wales quarry. It is currently the oldest Theropod fossil, found in the UK. Although this dinosaur, was a distant relative of Tyrannosaurus rex, it was only the size of a chicken ( https://www.theguardian.com/science/2021/oct/06/scientists-discover-welsh-dragon-dinosaur-size-of-chicken). This Welsh 'dragon' has been given the name Pendraig milnerae. In spite of its diminutive size, it was probably an apex (top) predator, ruling the roost, in its part of Wales, some 200 million years ago.
