This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

The Shrinking of Mont Blanc
Mont Blanc is the tallest mountain in Western Europe. French scientists have found that it has been shrinking by an average of 13cm per year since 2001 (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/sep/29/mont-blanc-shrinks-a-metre-since-last-official-measurement-in-2017). Since its last 'official' measurement (estimations, in some years, are regarded as suspect) in 2017, Mont Blanc has shrunk by 1 metre. The scientists are uncertain what factors account for the phenonmenon but it's a dramatic change.
