This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Don't Mention the Climate Change!
It seems that, in some English courts of law, the topic of climate change is now taboo. For example, a judge has jailed two defendants for ignoring his restriction not to mention climate change in their address to the jury. The judge described their actions as 'contempt of court'. Now, protesters, holding up signs outside such courts, are also to be prosecuted for a similar offence. A government minister, with lots of expensive, tax payer-provided legal support, is expected to bring the case (https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/sep/19/protester-who-held-sign-outside-london-climate-trial-prosecuted). The protester's signs said "Jurors have an absolute right to acquit a defendant according to their conscience". This is actually true. According to the minister, however, it's 'Attempting to pervert the course of justice'. Not currently much sign of intelligent life in English courts of law?
