This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Now, That's What I Call Short-Termism!
It's well-known that the UK has the least energy-efficient homes in Europe. To a great fanfare, last March, government set up an 'all-singing, all-dancing' energy efficiency taskforce. This taskforce had the avowed aim of improving UK home energy effiency some 15% by 2030. It's just been scrapped! (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/sep/23/uk-ministers-scrap-energy-efficiency-taskforce-after-six-months). The diverse taskforce (including industry as well as academic representatives), had been basically charged with overseeing initiatives to insulate homes and upgrade heater boiler systems. Such folk, it appears, are distinctly surplus to requirements, when rowing back on climate pledges.
