The Great Disrupter

The planet has maintained a safe and stable state for humanity, since the end of the last ice age, 10,000 years ago. Scientists have recently, however, conducted an 'MOT' on the Earth's life support systems. To do this, they have looked at the nine planetary boundaries maintaining a safe operating space for humanity (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/sep/13/earth-well-outside-safe-operating-space-for-humanity-scientists-find). The scientists feel that 6 of the 9 planetary boundaries are clearly broken. Predictably, these include climate, water and wildlife diversity. All are currently in states, where their ability to maintain a healthy planet for humanity, is in danger of failing. Two other planetary boundaries, air pollution and ocean acidification, are also close to be being broken. Only one, atmospheric ozone, is currently unthreatened. That boundary is the one, where humans took effective remedial action, by removing chemicals that damaged the protective ozone layer. So, effective action can be taken. It's most worrying, however, that all 4 biological boundaries are those at the highest risk. Humans, put your house in order!
