This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

We Like Consistency in Our Sinners?
Martha Gill points out that hypocrisy (or perceived hypocrisy) seems a bigger career-killer, than any other 'sin'. This benefits politicians and media 'stars' in the public eye with few/no redeeming features (https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/sep/23/russell-brand-no-hypocrite-preached-what-practised-thats-why-we-indulged-him). The easiest way to prevent career cancellation, is to ensure you always openly lie, cheat and behave badly. If there's never a reason to expect better behaviour, such folk are often indulged. Nobody likes a hypocrit but we can apparently forgive cruelty, predatory behaviour, financial criminality and blatant dishonesty if it's 'our' guy/guyess. Consistency rools, OK? Just going on a world tour by private jet!
