This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Live and Let Die?
Rich tech entrepreneur, Bryan Johnson, thinks he's worked out the regime for eternal life. He rises at 4.30am and eats all his calorie-reduced, alcohol-free meals by 11am. Johnson then goes to his lonely bed at 8.30pm, sharp. Whilst awake, he takes 100 pills, illuminates his body with LED lights and sits on a high-intensity electromagnetic device. Johnson shares this information online, so that others (also presumably with no family aspirations or need to work) can follow suite (https://www.theguardian.com/society/2023/sep/14/my-ultimate-goal-dont-die-bryan-johnson-on-his-controversial-plan-to-live-for-ever). There's only one question 'Why?' Even if the regime works (and one has to say, there's no proof it does), wouldn't you just taking up space on an overcrowded planet? You would also be far from immune from events (e.g. pandemics, wars, climate disasters) going on in the outside world. It's life, but not as we know it, Jim.
