This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Every Breath You Take
Air pollution is clearly linked to the deaths of 400,000 Europeans per year. Almost all (98%) of folk on this continent, breath in damaging polluted air. Some folk, depending where they live, get more toxins than others. This air pollution (including oxides of nitrogen, ozone and carbon particulates) largely comes from vehicular exhausts, power stations, industrial processes, waste burning and heating systems (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/sep/20/revealed-almost-everyone-in-europe-breathing-toxic-air). In spite of the health impacts, some UK residents attack Ultra-low emissions zone cameras and devices (like planters,) limiting traffic flow through pedestrianised locations. Why isn't this anti-social behaviour regarded as a contribution to manslaughter?
