This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Weighing In at Almost £100bn Per Annum!
The costs to the UK of its people being overweight, has reached almost £100bn per annum. Each year, it costs the affected people circa £63 bn, the National Health Service around £19bn and Society £15bn. It's totally false economy for the UK government to allow purveyors of unhealthy foods carte blanc to advertise and sell their products (https://www.theguardian.com/society/2023/dec/04/cost-of-people-being-overweight-in-uk-now-98bn-study-finds). UK folk actually spend more per annum on confectionery, than they do on fruit and vegetables! Healthy people means having an active workforce, with less illness and a reduction in the money having to be spent on medical interventions. The Food 'Industry', however, does make contributions to the party.
