Cannabis and Autism

 


There has been a liberalisation of cannabis use in many parts of the world (including Canada). It is, however, known that a variety of drugs and other agents can have lasting impacts on the developing central nervous system and subsequent behaviour when the foetus to such medications. Although the link is not definitive, a Canadian group has suggested that there is a link between cannabis use in pregnancy and autism in the child (https://www.theguardian.com/society/2020/aug/10/study-links-cannabis-use-during-pregnancy-to-autism-risk). They suggest that, for safety's sake, cannabis use should be avoided in pregnancy in the same way as alcohol.
