Half and Half?

Enormous effort has been invested in developing a safe and effective vaccination for Covid-19, with some 150 candidate preparations, in various stages of development, world-wide. Getting a vaccine is often presented as the only way back to something like normality. Having said that, it is still something of a shock to be reminded that only 50% of people surveyed in the UK would definitely have the injection (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/aug/09/only-half-of-britons-would-definitely-have-covid-19-vaccination). I can't believe that the section of society having doubts about undergoing treatment, are all in the grips of antivaxxer weirdness. I suspect that part of it is rooted in the fear of the unknown and a tendency to a 'wait and see how it goes' mentality. This seems likely to be exacerbated by people, no doubt, seeing development of this particular vaccine as being something of a 'rush job'. Having said that, anything like an uptake of only a half would leave us well short of the, hoped for, sunny uplands of 'herd immunity'.
