A systematic study (with measurements carried out at the same time each year by the same group) appears to strongly link the melting of New Zealand's glaciers to human-mediated global heating (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/aug/04/theres-still-a-choice-new-zealands-melting-glaciers-show-the-human-fingerprints-of-climate-change). The authors found that extreme melting events in both 2011 and 2018 was many times more likely as a consequence of the impact of the release of greenhouse gases. This is in part of the world hardly notorious for its heavy industry and over population.
This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.
