The 'silly season' survives even in a Covid-19 pandemic. There have been widespread reports of the dangers of the stinging medusae of 'jellyfish' thronging in British waters (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/aug/15/jellyfish-bloom-reports-soar-from-cornwall-to-the-outer-hebrides). Only a few 'local' species (e.g. the Lion's mane) are a serious hazard to human swimmers but large jellies are easy to spot in the water or on the tide-line. It seems likely that their actual prevalence has been increased by relatively calm conditions and the abundant plankton on which to feed. However, it may also be the case that more staycationers are around to spot them.
