This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Do They Or Don't They Want More Electric Vehicles?
The UK government is cutting grants for electric vehicles for the 2nd time this year (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/dec/15/uk-cuts-grants-for-electric-vehicles-for-second-time-in-a-year). The subsidy is falling from £2,500 to £1,500 and the upper price for an eligible car model will now be £32,000 (down from £50,000 in March 2021). The UK government is also cutting grants for large and small vans (increasingly used to deliver mail order goods to people's homes). Perhaps government are worried about the loss of revenue and the scheme's expense, but repeated cutting makes planning difficult for car makers and potential purchasers. Do they or don't they want to reduce car emissions?
