This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Elite Universities Also Into 'Greenwashing'?
The Science Museum in London has been castigated for taking money from big coal and oil companies. Some scientists have refused to work with the museum, feeling it has sold its integrity for 'greenwash'. It now transpires, however, that several elite UK Universities have accepted a total of £89m from major oil companies in the last 4 years (https://www.theguardian.com/education/2021/dec/11/uk-universities-took-89m-from-oil-firms-in-last-four-years). By far the biggest recipient of this alternative 'greenwash' is Imperial College London. It has received £54m of the four year total. Cambridge and Oxford Universities have received lesser but still substantial amounts. Because of 'commercial confidentiality', the public can't even find what the money is used for. Do the oil companies have a final say on the release of scientific data? As they say, "He who pays the piper, calls the tune".
