This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Jekyll and Hyde Park?
The mayor of London has released £600,000 towards a 'rewilding' programme for parks in that sprawling city (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/dec/14/sadiq-khan-rewild-hyde-park-green-species-london). The money will be spent on creating areas of scrub, green roofs, nesting boxes for Peregrine falcons and putting the wiggles back into water courses etc. Long-absent species should be attracted back into some of these locations. There might even be beavers in Hyde Park! The intention of this cross-party initiative is to increase biodiversity and make the natural world much more accessible to Londoners.
