This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

'One Armed' Antivaxxer?
It's amazing what some people will try! In Biella near Turin (Italy), a man arrived at the local Covid19 vaccination centre wearing a silicone arm (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/dec/03/italian-man-tries-to-dodge-covid-vaccine-wearing-fake-arm). The man filled out the required pre-vaccination documentation but the medic noted something fishy (no veins?). The offender was asked to take off his shirt, revealing the subterfuge. The 50 year old asked the vaccine injector to keep his secret. This may sound like 'armless fun but the man is now facing fraud charges. It's wholly inappropriate behaviour for someone to try to engineer a situation, where they can falsely claim to be vaccinated. This would put any contacts at serious risk. It would also confound any medical treatment he might later require, as well as making tracking of viral transmission next to impossible.
