This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Now That's What I Call Exponential!
UK scientists have already recorded more than 500 cases of infections by the Omicron variant of Covid19 in the country. They think the actual current figure is probably nearer 10,000. This variant doubles its numbers, every 2.5 to 3 days. The Health Minister, notes there could be a million cases in the UK by the end of December (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/dec/08/omicron-cases-could-exceed-1m-by-month-end-sajid-javid). He was met with cries of 'resign' from members of his own party, when announcing it was time to bring in Plan B (limiting close contacts and adopting face-masks in defined locations). Even if (due to the vaccination programme?), only a relatively small proportion of the 1 million require hospitalisation, that could still be a very big number! Plan B should have be introduced a week ago, no matter what the Party Party say?
