This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Call This a Winter?
It's winter in the central Chilean Andes. The temperature has just hit 37 degrees Centigrade! (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/aug/06/winter-heatwave-andes-sign-things-come-scientists-warn). At this time of the year, 37 is an exceptional temperature. It may well be due to the predicted combination of climate change and the El Nino phenomenon. Mountain snows are melting at comparatively low altitudes. Scientists say, however, that, perhaps, we ain't seen nothing yet.
