This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

When 'Pledges' Aren't Worth Making
The G20 are the planet's richest nations and its major current emitters of 'greenhouse gases'. At Glasgow's Cop26 meeting, the G20's 'world leaders' pledged to phase out their 'inefficient subsidies' to fossil fuel companies. They seemed to finally accept that throwing money at coal, oil and gas producers, made global heating and consequent climate change inevitable (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/aug/23/g20-poured-more-than-1tn-on-fossil-fuel-subsidies-despite-cop26-pledges-report). A promise is a promise- right? The G20 poured a record $1tn of public money into fossil fuel subsidies. The public got no say in any of this. 'World leaders' speak with forked tongues? Particular politicians pledging platitudes?
