This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Hot Air in Wisconsin?
Although the front-runner was missing from the Milwaukee primary debate, the other eight Republican candidates seemed profoundly relaxed about climate change. Only one of the candidates (with strong rightwing ties) was an out-and-out climate change denier. The remaining 'magnificent seven' seemed most intent, however, on reducing any funding, allocated by Democrats, to deal with urgent environmental issues (https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/aug/24/republican-hopefuls-shrug-when-asked-about-climate-crisis-during-debate). The candidates for Republican party nomination, ignored the USA's long record 'greenhouse gas' emissions (it's apparently up to China and India to curtail their emissions). The extreme weather events, hitting parts of the USA and neighbouring Canada, hardly got a mention. The collective attitude seems to be 'burn, baby, burn'! Making America a (fire)Grate Again?
