Coming out of a Covid-19 lockdown may not be perceived as great timing for it, but the Netherlands government is now compelled, by law, to reduce its carbon emissions by almost 10 megatons (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/may/04/climate-action-under-duress-how-dutch-were-forced-into-emissions-cuts). This represents a 25% reduction and can apparently largely be achieved by early retiring of coal-fired energy production. The government were forced into this by their supreme court up-holding an earlier ruling on a private prosecution by citizens concerned about their health and climate change. As so much is changing, now is as good a time as any the make reduce emissions. Hopefully, other countries will follow suite.
This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.
