Bicycle Kick

It seems that car-driving populists are worried about a post-Covid focus on the bicycle as a means of transport (as well as moves to make roads safer for this form of transport). A cerain Mr N. Farage has written in the Mail on a Sunday that those pesky two-wheelers should pay 'road tax' (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/bike-blog/2020/nov/11/farages-anti-cyclist-article-shows-car-users-fear-loss-of-control). Actually, road tax was abolished in 1937 and people, who are propelled by an internal combustion engine on the roads, pay Vehicle Excise Duty. That duty isn't only used to pay for the construction and maintainance of roads. More of it should certainly be used to make roads safer places and to reduce air pollution. Bicycles are part of the solution.
