This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Climate Change Denial: Running Out of Puff?
In spite of Covid-19 related declines in the release of 'greenhouse gases', this has been a record year for tropical storms in the Atlantic (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/nov/15/scientists-link-record-breaking-hurricane-season-to-climate-crisis). There have been 30 thus far, including Hurrican Eta (a record breaker in terms of its strength, speed of intensification and total rainfall). This pattern of climate change (Eta's characteristics are evident in all these warm water-generated tropical storms) has been especially problematic for people living in Central America. It should be no surprise that climate change is a major factor driving immigration. The only positive feature of this pattern of tropical storms, is that it appears to be getting harder and harder for people to claim that human-mediated climate change is not occurring.
