This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Greenwash Checks?
So long as it is carried out effectively and honestly, I am relieved that the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is to make more checks. It will look at whether packaging and logos, used on products sold in UK shops (and online with Amazon?), make excessive claims about their ecofriendly natures (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/nov/02/businesses-making-eco-friendly-claims-to-be-vetted-by-uk-watchdog). The CMA will essentially be vetting for 'greenwashing', which is a tendency to use unsupported claims of environmental benefits, to help sell their items. A growing trend to make such claims, which are not always supported by the evidence, seems evident.
