This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

A 'Massive Attack' on 'Coldplay' But?
Eleanor Salter (a writer on climate, culture and politics) has also criticised the 'greenwashing' evident in Coldplay's current plans for touring (https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/may/11/coldplay-massive-attack-greenwashing-neste). Salter points out that Coldplay might do well to emulate the 'more realistic' changes to touring of the Bristol group Massive Attack. Some 'green interventions' are well-meaning, whereas others appear to be simply gimmicks. All this is true but at least some pop groups are exploring ways of reducing their touring carbon footprints. This is in stark contrast to the total lack of response from the organisers of International Sport. Athletics, Cricket, Football, Formula One racing etc etc generate massive amounts of 'greenhouse gas' emissions. They repeatedly fly their stars, equipment and fans thousands of miles each year. Organisers of International sports, however, appear to only talk about how to expand their activities to yet more locations and how to increase their number of competitions. More sport means more money. Urgent action is needed to ameliorate the emissions associated with sport. It's, afterall, only another entertainment 'industry'.
