Planet Garbage Bin?

Pollution is now one of the biggest threats to human life on this planet (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/may/17/pollution-responsible-one-in-six-deaths-across-planet). Each year, circa 9 million people die from breathing toxic air or from being exposed to contaminated water and soil. Pollution thus causes 1 in 6 deaths across 'Planet Garbage Bin'. This figure dwarfs the combined deaths produced by road traffic accidents, AIDS, malaria and TB. Indeed, pollution produces more deaths than does drug and alcohol misuse. Currently, 900,000 deaths per year are from lead poisoning. Lead water pipes are one obvious source of this pollution. This piping has been replaced in many higher income countries. More than 90% of pollution-related deaths, however, occur in low and middle income countries. Pollution, consequently, has a worse effect on human health in the poorer parts of the globe. There has been no reduction in pollution-related deaths, since the issue was last evaluated in 2017. Sadly, few attempts at prevention have been made in the intervening years. We do live on an increasingly toxic planet!
