This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Some People Will Steal Anything 2
Cat 'owners' in the UK may be threatened with fines, of up to £500, if they do not get their pet microchipped and registered (https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2021/apr/15/plans-for-compulsory-microchips-for-cats-amid-rise-of-thefts-in-uk). Over the pandemic, there has apparently been a more than 12% increase in cat thefts. The plan is aimed to reduce thefts. The only comments I would make is that a) Nobody, actually 'owns' a cat -they are quite capable of rehoming themselves and b) It is very likely that more kittens will be killed, if they have to be expensively implanted.
