This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

BamGoogled?
In October 2021, US Search Engine Company, Google, proudly announced it was banning climate change denial ads. In future, Google would only carry authoritative statements on climate change from organisations like the United Nations (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/jan/27/daily-wire-google-ads-climate-crisis-deniers). Google have since accepted money (some estimates suggest circa $60m) from the Daily Wire to carry 150 Google search ads. The Daily Wire ads list search phrases such as "Climate change is a hoax" and "Why climate change is fake". Entirely 'fortuitously', the highest-ranked items take the searcher to climate change-denying articles, written by the Daily Wire's head honcho. Clearly, it only takes a few million dollars to separate Google from its principles.
