This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Once in a Blue Moon to Almost Three Times Per Decade?
The UK's record temperatures of 2022, were apparently made 160 times more likely by the current level of global heating (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/jan/05/uk-average-annual-temperature-tops-10c-for-first-time). Without global heating, such temperatures would have been seen only once per 500 years. They are now likely to recur in just over 3 years. Atmospheric concentrations of 'greenhouse gases' are still rising. We could very soon get to a situation, where record high temperatures are seen in alternate years. Are we really prepared to envision that? Thousands of early deaths have been linked to the UK summer temperatures of 2022. If this is a regular occurrence, the UK will have to be repeatedly restocked with immigrants.
