This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Scottish Cool
Nacreous or 'mother of pearl' cloud tend to form, high in the atmosphere, over the polar regions. These iridescent clouds were actually spotted over Scotland, in the evening of 29th of January and morning of the 30th (https://www.theguardian.com/science/2023/jan/30/rare-mother-of-pearl-clouds-spotted-over-scotland). Although nacreous clouds are not unknown over parts of the UK, this relatively unusual occurence is a further confirmation of our climate being in a state of flux.
