This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Lung Protein Protection From Covid?
Sydney University scientists have published an interesting paper in PLOS Biology. They used the gene-editing technique CRISPR and tissue culture, to identify a lung protein, LRRC15, that stuck 'like velcro' to Sars-Cov-2 virus spikes. This immobilised the virus (https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/feb/09/crazy-interesting-findings-by-australian-researchers-may-reveal-key-to-covid-immunity). Sars-Cov-2 causes Covid19 infections. The virus uses its spikes to enter its host's cells. The authors of the PLOS Biology paper, suggest that high concentrations of the lung LRRC15 protein, may prevent some people from ever becoming sick with a Sars-Cov-2 infection.
