This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Slow Burn?
Wood burners are sources of highly damaging particulate air pollution (https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/dec/27/wood-burning-stove-environment-home-toxins). The UK's Environment Secretary has 'pledged' a 'crackdown' on wood burner use, especially those loaded with problematic fuels (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/feb/03/councils-say-they-lack-funds-to-enforce-stricter-limits-on-wood-burners). It's easy to pledge but she doesn't seem to be putting any resources into 'policing' wood burner use and its contribution to air pollution. Local councils claim that they also lack the resources to carry out the Environment Secretary's promised 'crackdown' on wood burner use. Back to the days of 'peasouper' fogs?
