This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Suffer, Little Children
The UK's 'cost of living crisis' has resulted in vegetable oil and pasta doubling in price in a single year. Rocketing increases in the costs of bread, chips and tea are not far behind. People are tempted to steal rather than let their families starve. It's a sign of very sad times, however, when a number of English COOP stores elect to keep baby formula milk behind their tills to discourage theft (https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/feb/19/co-op-stores-in-england-put-baby-formula-behind-tills-to-deter-theft). Cigarettes and booze I can understand but formula baby milk!
