Here's Your Bill, Sir!

Intensive car manufacturer's lobbying, seems likely to result in the European Union 'watering down' its proposed legislation on automotive emissions. The legislation was proposed on the basis of what is now known about the damage caused by the emissions from petrol and diesel cars. Nitrogen dioxide limits, for example, are likely to be virtually unchanged. Specialists have estimated the costs, in terms of human health and environmental damage, as being circa £100bn per annum (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/nov/07/eu-poised-to-water-down-new-car-pollution-rules-after-industry-lobbying). Using the 'polluter should pay' rule then, the automotive industries should, each year, pay £100bn from their profits to cover the societal costs. Perhaps some of the folk, who's health is impaired are entitled to additional money for the pain and distress caused? Fair is fair?
