It's the Rich What Gets the Pleasure: It's the Poor What Gets the Blame

In 2019, the 'greenhouse gas' emissions of the richest 1% of humanity, exceeded that of the poorest 66%. The rich cohort was 77 million strong. It included billionaires, millionaires and folk paid more than $140,000 (£112,500) per year. That year, they generated almost 6bn tonnes (16%) of all carbon dioxide emissions. That's enough to cause 1.3 million heat-related deaths, mainly in poorer parts of the world (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/nov/20/richest-1-account-for-more-carbon-emissions-than-poorest-66-report-says). The massive 'greenhouse gas' emissions of the richest billionaires is generated by their superyachts, private jets, multiple mansions, recreational space flights and setting up doomsday bunkers. It would take 1,500 years for someone in the bottom 99% of earnings, to release as much carbon as a billionaire generates each year. An Oxfam adviser notes that "The super-rich are plundering and polluting the planet to the point of destruction and it is those who can least afford it who are paying the highest price." She seems to have a point! The 'polluter elite' must be controlled, if there's to be any chance of avoiding climate catastrophe.
