This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Last Gasp
The European Environmental Agency estimate that, in 2021, half a million people were were killed by the EU's toxic air. They suggest that 50% of these deaths could have been cut, by reducing air pollution to the medically-recommended values (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/nov/24/toxic-air-pollution-eu-death). It, consequently, seems remarkable that a) the EU has decided (under pressure from its motor manufacturers) not to require cleaner vehicle technology and b) substantial numbers of folk still resist clean air legislation on economic/'freedom' grounds. Respiratory diseases are very unpleasant ways to die.
