Blood Clots and Vaccine

The UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) note there have been 30 reports of people in the UK, who received the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine, developing rare blood clot events. These events are linked to low platelet counts and 7 people, who developed this condition, subsequently died (https://www.theguardian.com/society/2021/apr/03/uptake-of-covid-jab-remains-high-in-uk-despite-blood-clot-fears). The 30 cases came from the 18.1 million people in the UK, who have received the Oxford/AstraZeneca jab. The rare blood clotting event is seen in about 1 in a million people in the general population. So the incidence does look to be somewhat (about two times) higher than normal. Having said that, people are being more closely monitored, for blood clotting events, than usual. More of these events, might well be consequently picked up. People who have a Covid-19 infection, have a 1 in 6 chance of developing clotting problems. Not surprisingly, the MHRA note that the benefits of receiving the vaccination vastly outweigh any 'dangers' (even if the dangers do turn out to be genuine). Most people in the UK still seem generally enthusiastic about getting the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine. The same, unfortunately, may not be true in other parts of the world. Until we all have protection, nobody is completely safe.

Robin McKie basically reiterates the points I made (https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/apr/03/undermining-the-astrazeneca-jab-is-a-dangerous-act-of-political-folly). He describes the undermining of the AstraZeneca vaccine as being "a dangerous act of political folly"
