This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. Concrete and Clay
'Make Architects' claim their proposed ivy-covered, office block for Salford (near Manchester, UK) will be 'fossil fuel free' (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/apr/03/dirty-secret-fossil-fuel-free-building-embodied-carbon-building-glass-steel-blocks). The planned building will be made entirely of concrete, steel and glass. All three materials involve the burning of huge amounts of fossil fuel, with the release of masses of greenhouse gases. We really do need to start to distinguish between serious attempts to curtail climate change and 'greenwash'. The new building could more accurately be described as 'gone greenhouse gas galore'.
